BATESBURG-LEESVILLE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

AFTERSCHOOL PROGRAM

 

Welcome to the EAGLES (Each Awesome Group, Learns, Excels and Soars) Afterschool Program.  Our program wants to provide a loving, friendly, and safe environment for students to receive academic tutoring, homework help, exposure to a variety of enrichment activities, field trips and summer programs.  We want students who attend the Afterschool Program to have a good attitude toward school and be proud of their accomplishments both in day school and after school.

 

The EAGLES Afterschool Program staff wants to work hand in hand with parents to provide the most positive and productive atmosphere for our students during the after school hours.

 

AFTERSCHOOL PROGRAM GOALS:

  1. Provide a safe, structured and educational environment
  2. Provide academic tutoring in the Language Arts and Math along with homework help to help improves student’s daily grades and test scores.
  3. Reduce negative attitudes toward school through life-skills training designed to decrease school absences, school disturbances/disruptive behavior and violence
  4. Provide parenting education
  5. Expose students to a variety of enrichment and cultural activities

 

ABOUT OUR PROGRAM:

Our maximum enrollment is 120 students.  We have ten groups of students with 12 students per group.  Each group has a teacher and a teaching assistant.  Students receive reading and math tutoring 3 days per week.  Students have 30 minutes of homework time daily.  The reading tutorial program is “Soar to Success” and the math tutorial program is “Everyday Math”.  We are very fortunate to have the support of our school administration and faculty.  Everyone working together has enabled us to make our program the best that it can be.

 

AFTERSCHOOL PROGRAM ACTIVITIES:

Our activity day is on Wednesday from 2:30 p.m. – 3:15 p.m.  They include:

                        Junior Achievment

                        Physical Activity

                        Computer Class

                        Library

                        Girl Scouts

                        Drama Club

                        Chess Club

                        STEP Team

                        Golf Team

                        Special Speakers (so far this year: B-L Chief of Police, Town Fireman, Story teller from Lexington County Public Library)

 

 

 

Other activities include:   Character Education Classes on Wednesdays

                                          Saturday Field trips

                                          Monthly Family Reading Night at the Batesburg-Leesville Branch of the Lexington County Public Library – On Monday’s. 

                                          Special Pizza Parties for ASP students who make Principal’s list, Honor Roll, or Pawsome

 

So far this year:  We went to the Corn Maze in Lexington, SC

                            Saw “Beauty and the Beast” at Haynes Auditorium in Leesville, SC

                            Had Movie time at Batesburg Library – We saw “The Old Man and the Sea”

 

Upcoming Trips:   Eudora Farms, Wagener SC   Saturday, April 22nd.  More information will be sent home closer to time.
